My first Julep Maven box!

I got my first Julep Maven box in the mail a few days ago. I have to say that I am impressed!

So, for my $19.99 (actually I had a coupon so I think this was $5 making it an even better deal) I got 2 full size nail polishes, in Anne (the purple creme) and Maria (pink foil). Their polishes sell for $14 a piece so it's already paid for itself and then some. And these are colors I will actually wear. Also pictured is a sample of their hand cream that was also in the box.

In addition to the polishes and the sample, I got a full sized Glow On Age Defying Hand Brightener. That sells for $32. I have yet to use it but it does smell good. I have a few other hand creams I want to use before starting another.

I am very happy with this Maven box. The polishes apply very nicely, 2 coats was perfect coverage. I am sure that since this was in introductory box it's a worth a bit more than the regular monthly boxes will be, in fact I decided to skip on my first regular box. But that's part of the beauty of this program, if you don't like the box they are going to send you for the next month they give you plenty of time to skip it and not be charged for that month. You also have the option to send it to a friend as a gift or choose a different box.

Here is my referral link if you would like to check it out and take a look around their site.

Revlon Colorstay 2012

I saw a huge display of this stuff at CVS the other day. It promises a gel-like shine for 11 days. The small print tells you that this is if you use their base coat, polish and top coat. All they had was the colors here, no base or top coat. Tonight I was at Walgreens and found the display with everything. I just had to try this out.

I remember the old Colorstay nail polish. It came in a bubble pack of a color and a top coat, many of which were glitter. I actually still have a bottle of the top coat and it smells like plastic so bad (and always has) I remember why I hardly ever used it.

So I have better hopes for the new stuff, and I picked up the base coat, top coat and 3 colors. I am going to test it out and see how long it really lasts. I will keep you updated. The thing I find odd is that Revlon does not have any information about this polish on their website yet, and I wanted to link to it. I don't get that. If it should ever go up I will put a link to it. There are several colors in the new line.

Here is the top and base coats and the three colors I got: Rain Forest, Amethyst and Cafe Pink.
Amethyst

Cafe Pink

Rain Forest

Base and Top Coat

I did my manicure on Saturday, finishing about 2am, so far, so good. I was really looking forward to using the green but sometimes I can't keep the darker shades on my nails for too many days. I'm not really a dark polish person, even though I like it, so I tend to wear it less often and for shorter periods of time. So I used the Cafe Pink for my test run. I did have to use 3 coats but it smoothed out really well and I think it looks nice.

I will keep you updated about how long this lasts, etc...

New Wet n Wild Megalast polish - On a Trip

Wet n Wild has come out with a new bottle and new brush as well as some new colors. My store didn't have many out, but I did get one. I really like the new brush. They call it a Manicurve Pro Brush. It's a lot like the brushes in the Sally Hansen complete salon manicure bottles. The size of the bottle has gone from .30 fluid oz. to .45. The color I got is called On a Trip, and it's number is 213C. It's also one of those colors that is hard to capture in photos, turning out much more blue than it really is. It's actually a more like a darker lilac creme.

WnW On a Trip - 2 coats

Taller, squared off at the top and 50% bigger than the old one.

And the new brush
Have you tried the new WnW Megalast? I really like the brush a lot better, and the formula was really easy to work with.

Two Less Lonely (Purple) Glitters

As I was working my way through my purple collection tonight I realized that I have 3 colors that are virtually identical. Nicole's One Less Lonely Glitter (Justin Bieber collection, oy) has 2 nearly dead on matches in L.A. Splash Sparkling Lavender and Color Club Tru Passion. The Color Club definitely comes out the best after 3 coats. In person, you can barely tell the apart. Now none of them will be too lonely.

essence fairytale nail polish

I've been pretty sick for a while (that's my excuse for my abscence) but today I decided to take a trip to Ulta and see what was new. I picked up mostly new polishes that I can't wait to post about.

One thing I did while I was stuck at home sick was go through my polish stash and tried on things I haven't worn in a while. I was testing out some of the essence polishes and had forgotten how much I like them.

So when I got to Ulta I found a special display for essence for a special release called fairytale. It was pretty picked over but I did manage to find a really nice polish. It's a shimmery purple with a touch of gray in it. It goes on like a dream. I did two coats for the picture but it even looked good with just the first coat. It's called Fairy Berry and here it is:

One Less Lonely Glitter swatches

So the only other color I got from the Justin Bieber collection was one less lonely glitter.

The Finger on the left has 2 coats of OLLG, the middle finger has 1 coat of SH Xtreme wear in Lacey Lilac covered with 2 coats of OLLG. The finger on the right has 3 coats of OLLG.

I didn't use a top coat with these and without it it totally feels and looks like sandpaper. It's really thick glitter with coarser pieces mixed in.

When I wear this again I will probably just wear it alone with the three coats.

Another thing, in the photos you can see these really dark pieces of glitter throughout. When I was wearing it whether inside or outside I never saw that. It all blended together well.

Essie now available at Walmart

It's $7.75 at my store. I don't know if the colors are different or the same as the old line that they sell at salons. I picked up a few colors: French Affair, Merino Cool and Muchi, Muchi. French Affair is definitely my favorite. It's nice and opaque but can be a little streaky going on. Merino Cool is also very nice, it's a purplish gray and goes on like a dream. Muchi, Muchi is definitely a sheer color. 3 coats and it's pretty nice though. No streaking and builds nicely. I'll post up some swatches soon!

Right now they only have the color polishes, but there is a sign saying the nail treatments, top coats etc.. will be coming in February.

Zoya Ultra Glitters

Zoya Ultra glitters are some of the best polishes I have ever used. The best thing about them is that they are super easy to touch up. If you get a chip you can just dab a little on and put top coat over it and it looks as good as new.

Asta is the reddish one. In my picture you can't really tell a whole lot of difference between Astra and Nova, but in real life Astra is reddish and Nova is purplish.

As I said I love these because of their fixability factor and the fact that it's so glittery it's saving a step of putting a glitter over regular polish. Love it!

Working on my first sticky sandwich

I am just finishing up my first sticky sandwich. I have read lots of blogs and there are different ways to do it. What I am trying is the most general:
1. sticky base coat (I am using CND Stickey)
2. polish ( I am using Rimmel 60 Seconds polish in Climax)
3. sticky base coat
4. polish
5. top coat (the only one I have right now is Zoya Armor)
6. fast dryer (Orly Fast Dry)

I will report in a few days with results and pictures.

My first Zoya haul!

I had never heard of Zoya until I got really "into" nail polish and started reading nail blogs, watching tutorials, etc...

So I decided to get myself an early Christmas present and jump right in with my first order! I'm still not really sure what's going on myself but here it is to take a look and I'll get things labeled. Of course then I'll have to play around with it. I guess what I'm saying is get ready for a lot of Zoya posts coming up here.

A new glitter - Sinful Colors "Frenzy"

I don't know if this is new or not, but it's new to me because yesterday was literally the first time I'd ever seen it. Maybe it was just always out of stock, but either way, I got it!! It's got purple, silver and tealish glitters in it, and it's very pretty.
First it's interesting how differently it photographs with a flash and without:

Even though it's a little out of focus, the one on the right looks like it does in real life.

When I tested it out, I decided to do it 4 different ways:

First (index) finger was Frenzy all by it's self.

Next finger was Frenzy over Sinful Colors Fiji:

Next it's over OPI Suzi and the Lifeguard:

And finally over N.Y.C. Big Money

Well that's it. I think it lost something over Big Money because it is basically the same color as one of the glitters so you don't see them as much.

And there you have it! I love my Frenzy! Here's one more look:

My first attempt at following a nail tutorial..

So I was crusing around YouTube the other day looking for nail tutorials, and I found this one and after watching it thought I could take a stab at it. Of course my result is nothing as awesome as hers but I still like it and think it's pretty good for my first try.
